Starting and Running a Home Church

The most common question I field is “how many people come to your services?” That is usually followed by “where is your church?” When I tell them that we have a handful of folks that come and that we meet in our home, their usual response it turning their nose up and walking away. Frankly I’ve grown to accept this and actually thank the Lord for it. I’ve found that it is a good “filter” that separates those that want to grow with the Lord and those that want to “play church.”

Jesus never had “church.” In fact the one time he had thousands following Him he preached a sermon that ran them all off but the 12, and then He turned to them and asked “are you going to go too..?” Jesus’ only concern was to do the will of His father, which should be our only concern.

Paul is another example of a person that cultivated home fellowships. In fact the early believers did not have a “church” building, the persons themselves were the “church.” This truth has been lost in the modern denominational ministries. Our emphasis is not on the building that the words sees, but rather the internal demolition and construction of our hearts towards the Lord.
